Hang the DJ and Soccerex

Last week the European football industry gathered in Manchester for Soccerex. As cards were exchanged and deals were done we got on with the far more serious challenge of producing a football centric version of our legendary Hang the DJ events.

Some of the biggest clubs and brands in football headed to a back street bar to listen to some of the biggest players in the football business play their 3 favourite records to a packed dance-floor. Guest included representatives from Nike, Manchester United, Asics, Manchester City and The National Football Museum showing their football peers what they were made of. Ben Elkington from Manchester United Merchandising & Licensing took the roof off with his selection but Ear to the Grounds’ Director, David Norris, deserves a special mention for his three smash hit tracks that got the crowd bouncing.

Despite the intensity of the DJ battle and the late night madness, it was back to Soccerex the morning after for a talk on the future of Brazilian football. Some fascinating points were covered around the build-up to the World Cup and it was great get the opinion of our Ear to the Ground Brazil MD, Rafael Rocha who was in town for the conference.

Overall, Soccerex was a great success and Hang the DJ really made a name for itself. The plan is to stage the next one in November at Copacabana in sunny Rio for the World conference. Unsurprisingly a lot of the UK team have offered to DJ.
